Wrestlemania 24- The last stop for “The Man”
Another one is in the history books along with the wrestling careers of one of the greatest; Ric Flair. But to be honest I think he’ll be back within a year, I mean look at Terry Funk he’s retired 13 or 14 times just to comeback for one more match.
24-Man Battle Royal to face ECW Champion later that night - This was on the pre-show I didn’t watch, I was too busy playing Scene It for the 360 with the guys before Wrestlemania actually started. Kane won the chance to face Chavo Guerrero later in the night for the ECW Championship.
JBL vs. Finlay in a Belfast Brawl - This was an interesting match and
produce one of my favorite moment of the nights when Finlay went for a
suicide dive against JBL and JBL hit him in the head with a garbage can
lid causing Finlay to hit the ground hard. JBL won the match with
the Clothes Line from Hell. While I was impressed with points in
the match I was a little disappointed with the out come of the match as
a whole. I was hoping for a little more involvement from Hornswoggle to
get revenge on JBL for what he has done to Hornswoggle in the past.Money in the Bank Ladder Match – With all of the craziness to this match plus the return of Matt Hardy, this has to be my second favorite match of the night. CM Punk to the win after Jericho's leg was hung upside down by this leg.
SmackDown vs. Raw: Batista vs Umaga – For me this was the get up and get a root beer match. I hated this match with a passion, I normally enjoy a Batista or Umaga match but these two just did not mesh well together and it seemed to drag on forever. Batista won the match and I hope the feud, so I don’t have to watch a rematch between these two.
Kane vs. ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero – The six second match literally, I turned my back and this match was over before I knew it. What I really don’t understand about this is WWE spent all this time building up Chavo’s title reign to mean something and then they have him lose the belt in seconds.
Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair – This is the match that I wanted to see the most and it lived up to everything I expected. It was my favorite match for so many reasons. It reminded me why I got into wrestling in the first place, a great story, great action and an ending that told the story. Ric Flair showed why he will always be a great wrestler. And for his career to end on one of the biggest stages of wrestling was a great way for him to end his 35 plus year career. When Michaels at the end whispering he was sorry before super kicking Flair for the pin; it was one of the most emotional moments of this and possible any Wrestlemania.
Beth Phoenix & Melina vs. Ashley & Maria in the BunnyMania
Lumberjack Match – The Fact Snoop Dogg was the master of ceremonies for
this match was awesome, him rolling out in his custom golf cart with
the divas following close behind him down to the ring was a great
image. The match it self was a fun and enjoyable, but the thing
that made me cheer out loud was when Santino Marella was verbally
abusing Maria after the match, Snoop got in the ring and clothesline
Marella into next week.Triple Threat Match: Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H - To be honest I don’t remember this match all that well, what I do remember is how great I thought the end of this match was, when Triple H had Cena pinned after the pedigree when Orton punted Triple H in the head and pinned Cena for the win.
Floyd "Money" Mayweather vs. Big Show – This was great, as much as I
know I’m suppose to hate the Big Show and boo him I found that I kept
cheering for him to destroy Mayweather for real. I just could not
get behind Mayweather who was supposed to be the good guy. He
just comes off to arrogant for me. They did a real good job in
making the something of this match and not just some type
sideshow. And the fact Mayweather had to use the brass knucks to
knock out the Big Show for the win kept both men looking strong. The Undertaker vs. World Heavyweight Champion Edge – This was a ok match but not what I would have had in the main event, I would have like to seen the Michaels vs. Flair in this spot of the card. Undertaker kept his Wrestlemania streak alive by beating Edge for the title.
Overall it was a good show and had it’s moments, But it will be remembered most of all for being the Ric Flair’s last match.
