Title vs Title

| | Comments (0) |
For the first time an a long time there will be a match that may rock the wrestling world.  Two major wrestling groups put their world heavyweight titles on the line in a unification match as NWA World Heavyweight Champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce fights against Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Champion Nigel McGuinness in Dayton Ohio on June 27,2008.

This match in my opinion is going to be awesome the, hard hitting action Nigel McGuinness, the old school of Adam Pearce this has the potential to be a match of the year candidate.

Here's link to a  radio show that the two of them did together

Here's a preview from the NWA Shows this weekend:

NWA PRO WRESTLING PRESENTS
Official EWF & AWS Previews:
by Marco Nelson

Friday June 20, 2008
Empire Wrestling Federation
"Old Town Showdown"
La Puente Restaurant
136 1st St. "Old Town"
La Puente, CA
Belltime 8:00PM
www.empirewrestlingfederation.com

EWF makes its debut in a brand new venue in the historic "Old Town" part of the city of La Puente. In addition to being the beginning of a new era for EWF, this Friday marks the beginning of a huge weekend for the dual EWF and AWS Champion Scorpio Sky! Sky has a shot at both the AWS Tag Team Titles and the crown jewel of them all, the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion. But first he has an EWF Title defense and an opponent that he cannot overlook.

EWF Championship Match
Champion: Scorpio Sky
Challenger: Joey Ryan (w/C. Edward Vander Pyle)
Scorpio Sky is not the only wrestler with a weekend full of opportunity. Joey Ryan finds himself with opportunities to take the EWF Championship and the NWA Heritage title. Since Ryan and his tag team partner Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson lost the NWA Worlds Tag Team Championship back in February, Joey Ryan has made every attempt to gain singles gold in the very first company he ever wrestled in - EWF. After a near miss against then champion Brandon "Nitro" Gatson, Ryan has earned another shot with victories over Frankie Kazarian and the now former champion Gatson.

Will Scorpio Sky start the weekend off with a successful defense?
Will Joey Ryan finally capture singles gold in EWF?
Will Vander Pyle care more about Ryan's title hunt or softening up Sky for Saturday night's NWA World Title Match?

Women's Wrestling Action
Candice LeRae vs. Aiden Riley
There is little doubt that Candice LeRae is one of the premier women's wrestlers in all of SoCal. This Friday she faces a new challenge as she takes on the much-lauded Aiden Riley in Riley's debut professional match. For months Riley has been in intense training at the NWA/EWF School of Hard Knocks and in La Puente she makes her highly anticipated debut. Can LeRae overcome the unknown or will Riley make her mark on the sport of kings by introducing us to a new queen of the ring?

Espiritu Infernal & Mercurio Jr. vs. Evan Jelic & Jeremy Jaeger
EWF's future will be showcased in this exciting tag team encounter. Rising lucha stars Espiritu Infernal and Mercurio Jr. have spent most of their young careers facing bigger opponents and using their speed and skills to their advantage. This Friday they find themselves evenly matched in the size and quickness departments as they take on the tandem of Evan Jelic and Jeremy Jaeger. Air Traffic Control has been warned: any unregistered blips on the radar over La Puente will probably be from this match!

All this, plus much more EWF action!

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title Match
Champion: "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce (w/Vander Pyle)
Challenger: Scorpio Sky
Scorpio Sky's huge weekend will see him have a once in a lifetime chance at becoming the Heavyweight Champion of the World. But to climb to the top of the mountain he will have to do what 9 months worth of competitors couldn't do - take the title from Adam Pearce! Many argued Adam Pearce's credibility due to the controversial manner in which he won the title in Puerto Rico last September. And while many of Pearce's defenses have seen additional controversies, none can doubt that Pearce has been a true fighting champion defending the belt throughout the NWA against stars such as Brent Albright, TJ Perkins, Damian Wayne, Sean "X-Pac" Waltman, Sicodelico Jr., Gary Valiant, Lil' Cholo, Babi Slymm and more. Pearce has even brought the title to non-NWA organizations such as SoCal Pro and his highly publicized upcoming bout in ROH against their heavyweight champion Nigel McGuiness. Pearce will be making a huge mistake if he looks past the hotter than hot Scorpio Sky while Sky is at risk of splitting his focus by accepting three huge matches in one weekend. Most challengers only get one shot and Sky had better be ready for his!

Alternative Wrestling Show
"Bart's Birthday Bash"
AWS Shop
19650 E. San Jose Ave
City of Industry, CA
Belltime: 4:00PM
www.alternativewrestlingshow.com

AWS Kingpin Bart Kapitzke likes his birthday. No, really, he does. He likes it so much that every year since the inception of AWS he has held a birthday bash featuring some of the biggest matches of the year. Bart's 29thish Birthday Bash will be no exception as a triple main event has been signed!

Main Event #1 - Steel Cage Lucha Libre Grudge Match
Pilota Suicida vs. Shamu Jr.
There is no nice way to put it. These two men have beaten the living crap out of each other every time they have stepped into an AWS ring. No one is sure how it started. No one is sure what their beef is. All anyone knows is that Pilota Suicida vs. Shamu Jr has become the most intense, angriest and bloodiest feud in the NWA. This Sunday it all comes to a head as a 15 foot high steel cage will be erected to try and contain the carnage. If you watch only one steel cage lucha libre grudge match this year, make it this one!

Main Event #2 - AWS Tag Team Title 4-Way Dance
Champions: The Cutler Brothers (Brandon & Dustin)
Challengers: The Ballard Brothers (Shannon & Shane)
Challengers: The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson)
Challengers: AWS Champion Scorpio Sky & ????
So many questions to be answered before the match even begins. Will Bart decide to make this one fall to a finish or an elimination match? How many titles will Scorpio Sky hold after defending the EWF Title on Friday and battling for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title on Saturday? What shape will Sky be in after those contests and who will his mystery partner be? How much jetlag will the Young Bucks be suffering from after their highly successful tour of Dragon's Gate in Japan? Will the Ballards wear their traditional Canadian colours or those hideous neon green outfits they occasionally show up in? Will the upstart Cutler Brothers maintain their cockiness in the face of overwhelming odds? If you watch only one 4-Way Dance for the AWS Tag Team Titles this month, make it this one!

Main Event #3 - NWA Heritage Title Match
Champion: TJ Perkins
Challenger: Joey Ryan (w/Vander Pyle)
On June 1st, at the debut NWA Pro/Mach 1 Wrestling event in Santa Ana, TJ Perkins joined a very short list that only includes current Worlds Heavyweight Champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce and the iconic Sean "X-Pac" Waltman when he captured the NWA Heritage Championship. Now Perkins must make his first defense against a man has given him many troubles in the past, Joey Ryan. Ryan and Perkins have had several jaw dropping contests that usually see Ryan come out on top with his feet planted on the ropes for leverage. Do not expect Perkins to fall for such shenanigans now that the prestigious NWA Heritage Title is on the line.

All this plus...

Scott Lost defends the AWS Light Heavyweight Title against Jerome "LTP" Robinson!

5 Big Guys in Masks (and one who maybe should be) - Los Chivos & Skulu vs. Plague, Extreme Loco & Black Metal

Aaron Aguilera in Action!

Women's Wrestling Action!

Sonny Samson vs. CK Jackson!

MIKASA TACOS!!!!!!!!!!!

A Battle Royal featuring: "White Trash" Johnny Webb, Lil' Cholo, Mikey Nicholls, Jason Watts, Charles Mercury, "Awesome" Lee Dawson, Willie "Yeah Dat" Mack, Sexy Chino, Ray "Biggie Biggs" Murillo, "The Golden Greek" Marcius Pittsonopolis, Johnny Goodtime and more!

It's a weekend full of action and title matches! Who will come out on top when all is said and done? Be there to find out!

All cards and talents subject to change

NWA 60th Anniversary Kickoff Show Results and Thoughts

| | Comments (0) |
When I walked through the curtain to head out the ring to check out the lighting for the night I was in awe of the Phillips Arena and the wrestlers who were going to be on the show.

I have always been a big NWA fan growing up and here I was about to photographed several of the wrestlers I grew up watch, cheering on and booing every weekend at 3:05 watching TBS to say that this felt like a dream was an under statement. As I've photographed several wrestling shows that were held in arenas over the past 5 years but this is the first time since my first arena show that I had to stop and just look around.  It was just intimidating; I'm not sure if it was the sheer height of the building or who was on the show but I was just in shock.

The show opened up with a video of NWA World Heavyweight Champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce thanking the fans of Atlanta for their support of the NWA in the past and the future. He went on to talk about the reason that he was not there and that he was "making history in Philadelphia", but more on that in a blog to come.

stevens.jpgThe first match of the night was Mike DiBiase vs. Idol Stevens for the NWA North American Championship. DiBiase, The son of the "Million Dollar Man" came out to a huge pop from the crowd.  This was only the second time I had seen Dibiase and the first time for Stevens.  It was a good match for both of them and an enjoyable contest for the fans with saw Dibiase retain the title. The way these two preformed showed that they have a bright future ahead of them in wrestling.

June 9, 2008 - In accordance with its Wellness Program, WWE has suspended, James Yun (Jimmy Wang Yang) for 30 days for his first violation of the company's policy.

Celebs announced for Hulk Hogan's new wrestling show

Ok now this is just funny, I knew not to expect A list stars for this show or even B list but come on this is just a little bit funny.  Here's the list that's circulating on the wrestling news boards:

Actor Todd Bridges from "Different Strokes" and "Everybody Hates Chris" . I so hope that Gary Coleman come ring side and acts as the evil manager.

Boxer and MMA fighter Eric "Butterbean" Esch  - Butterbean has appeared twice in WWE events He appeared at WrestleMania XV where he fought Bart Gunn in a shoot fight. Butterbean knocked out Gunn out in 27 seconds.

Actor Dustin Diamond Most famous from "Save the Bell".  I have this odd feeling that Butterbean is going to end up knocking him out after Diamond says the wrong thing to him.

Actress Erin Murphy who played Tabitha on the television show Bewitched

Singer and Actor Frank Stallone who scored a hit on the pop charts "Far From Over" in 1983. At age 57  he is older than the rest of the contestants.

Singer Tiffany Renee Darwish the 80s pop star with the hit song "I Think We're Alone Now"

And Playboy model Nikki Ziering.

I going to be watching this just for the sheer "accident" factor.   You know the type of thing you just slow down to watch a car accident.  What ever happens on the show you can be sure it's going to be fun to watch.

Shows this weekend

I'm going to try and do this once a week and give you a show listing for the upcoming weekend shows for local shows there is only one show in the area this weekend that I know of and it's the PWG show in Reseda.  Here's the press release:

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Presents It's It (What Is It?) on Sunday, June 8, 2008!
By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer

San Simeon, CA - After Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament, Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood was feeling a little bit off. Slurred speech, swerving while walking or driving, loss of appetite, dehydration, it was clear by the end of the day last Monday that something was wrong. Which is why Dino waited until Tuesday to get things checked out. Fortunate that he acted when he did, Dino was diagnosed with suffering from acute Heat Exhaustion, and had he waited just five more minutes before being submerged in ice to rapidly cool his core temperature, he would have lost total functionality of his brain. It was the first case of it's kind, where the symptoms persisted over a series of days without catastrophic side effects, and so serious that there will be an article about the newly named "Dino Winwood Syndrome" in the August/September issue of the New England Journal of Medicine and Carpentry (the premiere bimonthly publication that competes simultaneously with both the New England Journal of Medicine and This Old House).

Because of the commissioner's near-death experience, Dino has decreed that no more Pro Wrestling Guerrilla events will be held during a heatwave. Along with that, all venues will be required to provide adequate ventilation and refreshment for the Commissioner and his staff. While Dino has big plans for the way things will be run, due to the bureaucratic nature of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, these changes will not be implemented until 2011 at the earliest. As a stopgap measure, Dino has scheduled It's It (What Is It?), taking place on June 8, 2008 at 5:00PM, to be held at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA, which is rumored to have an Air Conditioning unit on the premises, though the validity of that statement has not been verified. It's It (What Is It?) is scheduled to feature:

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Title Match
Jack Evans & Roderick Strong vs. Chris Hero & Necro Butcher (with Candice LeRae)

-- While Dino Winwood would have you believe he was the only one who suffered during the DDT4 weekend, newly crowned PWG World Tag Team Champions Jack Evans and Roderick Strong had to contend with not only the heat, but also with three other teams vying for the right to call themselves undisputed champions. After making it all the way to the final round, only one team stood in the path of Evans and Strong, and that was then-champions El Generico and "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen. After a hard-fought battle that pushed both teams very nearly to their breaking point, Evans and Strong were able to isolate Steen, score the pinfall, and become twentieth Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Champions. This is Roderick's Strong's third reign as champion, and Jack Evans' first.

With new champions crowned, the next logical step is to find challengers for the title. However, at DDT4, all of the logical contenders received an opportunity to, at the very least, earn a title shot, so that leaves Dino Winwood with a tough choice. Does he make an illogical decision, or just an unlikely one? Well, since both Necro Butcher and Chris Hero have been chomping at the bit for a shot at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion Human Tornado, and Tornado refuses to vacate the title or release physical custody of the belt, Dino Winwood had an epiphany. "Why not tell the two guys that want title shots that they ARE getting a title shot, but just don't tell them which title they're getting a shot at." Dino said to himself. Luckily for Dino Winwood, on top of being allies, Chris Hero and Necro Butcher know a huge opportunity when they see one, which is why on June 8 at It's It (What Is It?), Hero and Necro intend on becoming the twenty first Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Champions!

Singles Match
Austin Aries vs. El Generico

-- After losing the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Titles at DDT4, El Generico had become despondent, spiraling downward into a world of tortas and horchata. Losing the titles for a near-record fourth time, Generico was certain that his career could never get back on track, so why not attempt to drown himself in a punch bowl filled with thick, yogurt-y, flavorful refreshment? Fortunately for El Generico and the wrestling world, Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur was on one of his company funded culinary research trips to Mexico when he stumbled upon the generic luchadore covered from toe to tip with Horchata, sputtering, and mumbling incoherently. Despite his ill will toward El Generico's tag team partner Kevin Steen, over the course of the last three days in a very touching scene reminiscent of The Princess Bride where Fezzik nurses Inigo Montoya back to health, Excalibur nursed El Generico back to health. And just as Generico was about to return to his life a rehabilitated man, the Commissioner of Food & Beverage dropped a bombshell. This treatment was not free. Excalibur is not running a bed and breakfast out of his office. Someone has to pay for this water, gruel and comprehensive medical care, and it sure isn't coming out of the Food & Beverage budget. However, there was a plan. A payment plan.

To work off his debt, El Generico would continue to wrestle for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, but every time he wins a match and "visits the pay windah," his purse will be given to the office of Food & Beverage. In order to expedite payment of Generico's debt, Excalibur has lined up a series of matches that could very quickly put El Generico back into title contention, and the first match in that series will take place on June 8 against Austin Aries. Aries had two impressive performances at DDT4, and despite losing to Davey Richardson Night 2, Austin Aries finds himself on the periphery of the title hunt. A victory here over former World Champion Generico could do wonders for Aries' ranking once the title situation is resolved, but a victory for Generico could not only help pay off his debt, but also return the generic luchadore to the top of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.

Singles Match
"New Guy" Brandon Bonham vs. Davey Richards

-- "Sorry brah, surf's up! Maybe next time!" was the message left on Dino Winwood's voicemail the day of DDT4 from Brandon Bonham, who, next to Owen Steen, holds the best win-loss record in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla today. The thought of fame and glory gained in gladiatorial combat proved to be no match for the sea's siren song that day, and just like legendary Bohdi, Brandon Bonham paddled out, and no one thought to ever see him again. Which made his return to land among light chop 45 minutes later all the more surprising. As it turns out, surfing does not pay Brandon Bonham's bills, but wrestling does. Since Bonham has six other days a week to dedicate to surfing, the least he could do is spend one day earning enough to pay rent on his seaside shack and keep the surf wax flowing. Disgusted at Bonham's laissez faire approach to professional wrestling, Davey Richards has taken it upon himself to teaching PWG's hottest prospect a very hard lesson. Men like Davey Richards dedicate their life to the sport of professional wrestling, and that lives room for little else, especially something as trivial as surfing. In order to reach the apex of the professional wrestling world, one must dedicate himself to the sport 100%. Will Richards find an apt pupil in young Bonham, or will the "New Guy" teach Davey to "relax, brah?"

Tag Team Match
The Dynasty (Scott Lost & Joey Ryan) vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre)

-- Going in to DDT4 as one of the favorites, Scott Lost and Joey Ryan were as surprised as everyone else to be eliminated by the debuting team of El Blazer & KAGETORA. They were even more surprised when they realized that Los Luchas, a team many believed to be underdogs, had made it to the second round. Was it the lack of Jade Chung's managerial guidance that lead to the loss, or was The Dynasty just simply outwrestled by their Japanese competitors? Unwilling to take this loss lying down, Scott Lost and Joey Ryan are setting their sights once again on the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team titles, but so are Los Luchas. Phoenix Star and Zokre were defeated in the second round by eventual tournament winners Jack Evans and Roderick Strong, and they would like nothing more to get a rematch, especially with the titles on the line. With Jade Chung still recovering from her injury at the hands of Super Dragon, The Dynasty will once again have to fight this one on their own. Will their cunning and guile make up for the advantage of speed and agility that Los Luchas have, or will their missing manager prove to be the key to The Dynasty's success?

Singles Match
Hook Bomberry vs. Scorpio Sky

-- On the second night of DDT4, against doctor's orders, Scorpio Sky's tag team partner Ronin made the gutsy (and in hindsight, ill-advised) decision to attempt to compete. But prior to the beginning of the match, Hook Bomberry flung a chair at Ronin's already injured knee, taking him out of the match and putting the big man from Monrovia on the shelf for an indefinite length of time. Looking to avenge his fallen partner, Scorpio Sky will take on Hook Bomberry in singles competition, an arena where Sky has proven himself to be highly capable. With TJ Perkins out of the state on June 8, Hook Bomberry will have to wrestle for the first time since returning to PWG without backup. Will Hook be forced to reach into his bag of tricks in order to gain a victory, or will the king of sting prove his supremacy in the ring?

Plus more matches, Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood and Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's It's It (What Is It?) takes place Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 5:00PM at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA. American Legion Post #308 is located at 7338 Canby Ave., Reseda, CA 91335. General Admission tickets are $20 and will be available at the door. About Slam Jam

Shane Michael Kidder, creator of a Web site of his photos that receives nearly 2 million hits a month from around the world, has learned many lessons in his time photographing wrestling, the most important one being “watch where the wrestlers are going.” This comes after almost being knocked out by a wrestler diving out of the ring at his first show in 2003 at a Golden State Championship Wrestling event in Newhall, Calif. Born in Northridge and still living in the San Fernando Valley, he spends most of his time working on his Web site in preparation for the next wrestling event.
