Ski Mammoth Mountain through Memorial Day, likely longer

Mammoth Mountain announced today it will be open for skiing and snowboarding at least through Memorial Day. With several storm systems forecast in the coming weeks, it’s possible that the resort will stay open longer, a spokesman said.

Many years, the slopes have enough snow to keep lifts running through July 4.

Earlier this week, Mammoth Springfest got off to a rousing start. Here’s a look at the schedule:

Oakley Week, through Sunday – Oakley Week has tons of events going on for shredders and skiers of all ages. Participate in signature snowboard competitions, visit the Rolling O-Lab, follow the Shred Hunt plus take in all the other action.

Mammoth Winter Biathlon, Friday-Sunday – Catch the excitement of this fast-paced Olympic sport in one of the largest biathlon events in the country.

Easter weekend, March 30-31 – Easter Bunnies, slopeside egg hunts, free snowmobile rides, and a host of other family-friendly activities will be happening across the mountain on Saturday and Sunday.


Nike Snake & Hammers, April 6 –
Mammoth Mountain is the host for the culmination of the Snake and Hammers series.

Roxy Ride Days, April 6 – This one-day all-girls snowboard coaching tour makes its U.S. debut at Mammoth. Female riders can progress their park and all-mountain skills with guest coaches and Roxy team riders.

Vitamin Water Weekend, April 13 – Vitamin Water takes to the snow at The Mill to celebrate spring with snow volleyball, beer pong tournaments, free samples, sunshine and fun.

Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam, April 20 – After numerous stops on the PB&RJ North American tour, the five top winners of each qualifier will battle it out in the finals for a chance to win part of the prize purse and to become the 2013 PB&RJ Champion. Spectators welcome.

Active Brodown Showdown, April 21 – Amateur riders are invited to showcase their talents on a custom-built South Park course full of jumps, bumps, jibs and rails for a chance to win cash and prizes. The competition will consist of a two-hour jam format qualifier and a 45-minute jam format final with 12 on-course judges comprised of pros, team managers and industry media moguls.

Pond Skim, April 21 – The annual SpringFest Party & Pond Skim. Join the crowds as they fill up Canyon Lodge to watch the craziest of Mammoth guests straight line it on their skis/snowboards across the 110-foot pond. It’s one of the most entertaining events you’ll see all season. Watch, or even give it a try. Registration begins at Canyon Lodge at 11 a.m. The Skim starts at 2 p.m.

Grenade Games 9, April 26-28 – Two days of snowboarding with the Grenade Pro Team, contests and live bands.
