Wednesday Round-Up

Always good to start the day with a little unsubstantiated rumor.

Citing Argentine Web site reports, Staff Writer Ivan Orozco reports today that former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron could be headed to Chivas USA in a $20 million deal from Estudiantes where he is on loan from Chelsea.

Of course, earlier reports had Veron headed to D.C. United, but for what it’s worth here’s the story.

Lots of soccer on TV today: at 4 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel F.C. Toronto plays EPL club Aston Villa; at 5 p.m. on Telefutura it’s D.C. United and Monarcas in their SuperLiga opener; and at 7 p.m. on Telefutura it’s the Houston Dynamo against Club America in the day’s second SuperLiga game.

Are they also reporting how Chivas USA could possibly put him on the roster with no DP slot? IIRC, no DP slot, means your whole salary counts against the cap. While there is no salary figure reported that I can find (but I speak Spanish as well as Lindsay Lohan stays on the wagon), I can’t see a $20 million transfer signing playing for whatever caps space is left on the CUSA roster, even if it is just half a year.

But it’s not like MLS hasn’t surprised me with a creative approach to the rules before…
