Presenting Beckham
The sound quality at Beckham's presentation was so bad speakers sounded like adults on a "Peanuts" animated special.
Embattled Carson Mayor Jim Dear received a better reception than embattled Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was roundly booed.
And David Beckham, smartly attired in (what looked like) a charcoal gray suit, said all the right, if totally bland, things in his Artful Dodger-like London accent.
"This is one of the biggest challenges I've ever taken on in my career," said the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star. "I feel very proud to be part of this for the next five years."
Oh goodie.
Now win.

Is it true that (MLS Commissioner) Don Garber welcomed Beckham in Spanish?
Nick: Yes. And Becks doesn't even speak Spanish very well despite his time in Spain with Real Madrid. Wonder how much he understood?
Beckham? Who cares?
Nick: Then why bother posting a comment?
Having lived in England for over two years I had the pleasure of watching Becks play for Man. United, Real Madrid and for his country. He is not only devoted to soccer and a very talented player but is genuinely a nice person. Unfortunately the American soccer team is horrendous by European standards and Becks alone cannot carry the team. He will amaze but the other players must also be outstanding on the pitch in order for the team to have consistent wins.
