Saturday Galaxy Gameday

Galaxy Get Real

The post-Beckham era begins tonight for the Galaxy with another heavy dose of reality — a crucial bottom of the conference clash against the team just above them, Real Salt Lake. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m. at Home Depot Center.

No complex analysis is needed; the depleted Galaxy must simply win and even that may already be irrelevant.

Meanwhile, as one designated player is sidelined another begins his MLS career: Brazilian star Denilson makes his debut today for FC Dallas.

Chivas USA Update

“Chivas USA don’t play another MLS game until Thursday against D.C. United at the HDC, but top scorer Maykel Galindo will appear noon Sunday on Univision live on Spanish-language sports show “Repblica Deportiva.”

The club also announced Friday that recently-signed “midfielder Ramn Nez has been called up by Honduran National Team coach Reinaldo Rueda for the Catrachos upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica (Sept. 9 in Boston, Mass.) and Ecuador (Sept. 12 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras).”

Here’s more from the Chivas USA press release:

“Nez is expected to fly to the East Coast on Sept. 7, one day after Chivas USAs Thursday night match against D.C. United at Home Depot Center.

I am honored, as always, to have been called up by Honduras, said the 21-year-old Nez. I hope to work hard and give my best effort, in hopes of making my debut with the full national side.

Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and raised in Dallas, Texas, Nez was acquired by Chivas USA on Aug. 15 in a trade with FC Dallas. Although he has yet to play for Honduras senior national team, he was previously called up by Honduras in 2006 for a pair of exhibition matches against Guatemala in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Previously, Nez represented Honduras at the youth national team level, including at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland.”
