Galaxy Gameday: Home Opener Against Earthquakes Tonight

One game into the season and the Galaxy are already seeking to rebound from last weekend's humiliating 4-0 loss to Colorado, taking on former Coach Frank Yallop and the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. live on ESPN2 from Home Depot Center.

The Galaxy are usually cagey about revealing ticket sales in advance, but commonly (and gleefully) announce sell outs and that hasn't happened yet, leaving one to wonder whether skeptical fans are taking a wait and see approach to David Beckham et al.

Expect Coach Ruud Gullit to juggle his line-up in the wake of that debacle with central defender Abel Xavier suspended after his red card against the Rapids.

The defense has looked suspect for much of preseason and in the Rapids the Galaxy simply found a team ready to take advantage, but this was apparently news to Gullit.

"The strangest thing is it doesn't happen in the preseason, all of a sudden it occurred," Gullit said of the poor defensive performance.

A game preview from a Galaxy perspective is here, comments from Yallop on his return to L.A. are here and a season preview of the 'Quakes is here.

Are the 'Quakes the Galaxy's biggest rival in MLS? San Jose fans think so judging by the results of a poll on the Earthquakes' Web site.

Finally, sports media critic and fellow blogger Tom Hoffarth talked to ESPN commentator Julie Foudy about the Galaxy and tonight's game.

I'll blog from the stadium tonight, providing regular updates.
