Tuesday's Column & More

I get paid to worry.

As in today's column, which takes a look at the dominance of David Beckham and Landon Donovan and the implications for the Galaxy's season.

For those who haven't seen it yet, here are the highlights of Becks and Donovan dismantling Chivas USA.

Not surprisingly after that performance, Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was named the MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters, for the second consecutive week.

Elsewhere, Long Beach State has announced its 2008 recruiting class including defender Nicole Hubbard (Lakewood/Mayfair High) and U.S. Under-17 international midfielder Shawna Gordon (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos High) as freshmen, while Marissa "Bo" Rael (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos High), who played last semester at the University of Oregon, is at LBSU.

One very important point you left out of your Becks/Donovan piece - Fish will be back soon.

Playing along side Becks and Donovan, Fish is bound to create even more headaches. Now with a little bite at the back (Franchino) LA might actually be coming together finally.

Nick replies. I hope you are right. But question marks surround Carlos, too, given his declining productivity while with Dallas.

Off subject, but how about that Barca-Man U match? They actually led the 3 p.m. SportsCenter with it, something I never thought I'd see on ESPN. They called it "the biggest game in the world," which is shocking for a network that goes overboard on year-round NFL coverage.

Hopefully Liverpool wins tomorrow so I'll at least have a team to root for in the UCL final.

Okay, I'm wanting to know what happened to the post on HDC concessions that is showing up on SoccerBlogs.net, but not here.

I'm getting visions of jackbooted AEG thugs in Armani and mirrored wrap-around sunglasses, armed with Uzis, breaking down your office door and shrieking, "Take it back! Take it back!"

Nick replies: Close, Laurie. We are having major blogging issues as we switch over to a new server that's causing posts to take a while to show up. But I like your description better.
