Final SuperLiga Result: Santos at Laguna Chivas USA

A common theme for Chivas USA Coach Preki this season has been his grousing that his team doesn’t capitalize on their chances.

Well, they did tonight, substitute Ante Razov scoring with an eight-yard header from a nice Sacha Kljestan cross in the 73rd minute for the only goal of the game.

It was the first shot Chivas USA had on target all night long. In fact it was the only shot Chivas USA had on target all night long. It was also Razov’s fifth goal in five straight games.

Santos Laguna redoubled their attacks after that and Dan Kennedy came up big in the 83rd minute, denying Vicente Vuoso a goal with a diving save.

Santos actually had the ball in the net in the 89th minute, which was disallowed for offside (but not by the player who scored I believe, which is why Santos’ players and fans were so irate).

Razov and Jesse Marsch had come on at half time for the impotent Roberto Nurse and Atiba Harris.

A win (or a tie if Pachuca fails to beat Santos Laguna Sunday) over New England will put Chivas USA through to the next round.

More from the zoo that is the mixed zone a little later.
