Argentine Defender Heading to Galaxy Named?

| | Comments (3) |

Several U.S. media outlets this morning identified the Argentine defender rumored to be heading to the Galaxy for the last week or so as 29-year-old Huracan player Eduardo Dominguez, based, in turn, on several reports out of Latin America.

Galaxy officials declined comment when I inquired about Dominguez today, which is sometimes the same as a confirmation, so read into that what you will.

Thanks for the news round- up.

Bad news for the journalists and the papers' readers, as well as with Becks/Donovan both a doubt for the upcoming game.

However thanks for the enquiry about that possible new signing.

Your work is appreciated even from the other side of the big pond.

Thanks

Ben

So, who do we write to at the Daily News and the LA Times to let them know we appreciate and want more of the soccer coverage?

Nick replies: The sports editor for the MediaNews Los Angeles News Group (which includes the Daily News, Daily Breeze, Long Beach Press-Telegram, et al) is Kevin Modesti who can be reached at heymodesti@aol.com.

At The Times the sports editor is Randy Harvey: randy.harvey@latimes.com.

Thanks for asking.

Nick,

You're doing great and thankless work. Please keep at it.

I'm with you in mourning the death of print journalism in the U.S. It's doubly sad to think that the LA Times - once a great newspaper - will continue to slip beneath the Pacific waves, and its soccer coverage may disappear with the retirement of grumpy Grahame Jones.

Anyway, on the soccer side, is there any connection between the possible Ruiz departure and the Dominguez arrival? Are they just trying to opening up salary space to pay for a new defender?

(Not that Ruiz's departure would be that big a deal. He hasn't been on the field enough to matter this year).

Nick replies: Well, they'll probably need to clear room under the salary cap, so there could be a connection.

But if I was Abel Xavier or Greg Vanney, I think I'd be worried.
