Super Classless?

Galaxy midfielder Peter Vagenas pulled quite a stunt after last night’s game, when he took the SuperClasico Trophy and walked directly to the Chivas fans and held the trophy aloft.

Vagenas was asked if he meant to “stick it” to the fans?

“Yeah, I did,” he said. “The bravado needs to get back on this team.”

    Legendary is more like it.

Pete is right. Got to play with and stoke the emotion if the Galaxy are ever going to be a player in this league again.

Spare me the poor sportsmanship BS unless you’re going to go into similar detail about Preki’s regular PMS’ing in the face of yet another bad result for Chivas against the Galaxy.

    Poor sportsmanship = Preki

Aren’t you media types always saying that the L.A. derby lacks passion or meaning, and that the Superclasico isn’t always so well, super? It might not have been a classy move, but its the type of move to put some passion into future matchups.

Pete, the whole problem with the team is its misplaced bravado. I’m not talking about parading with a trophy; I’m talking about denying reality and overvaluing the talent that’s on the team. I’m talking about living in an extended bubble of entitlement that substitutes for genuine accomplishment.

I could go either way. It was a game with a lot of cheap, pointless fouls including a broken jaw. I can understand Vagenas’ and Beckham’s and Donovan’s behavior in that context.

On the other hand, it wasn’t exactly a performance to remember. If you’re going to swagger, you have to be able to back it up. Otherwise, it’s tough on morale.

I’d like to be the coach of the Galaxy’s next few opponents, and show them a tape of this. Pete’s inviting the old “Beat LA” thing in a time when doing that has been depressingly easy.
