College Update: CSU Dominguez Hills, Cal State Northridge

West Torrance High alum and former Cal State Dominguez Hills grad Jaret "JT" Minami died Aug. 2 at Torrance Memorial Hospital at the age of 25, four days after suffering a stroke and slipping into a coma.A standout player for head coach Joe Flanagan and the Toros, Torrance native JT made 47 starts in 61 games played in his career, capping a four-year stint with 1st-team NSCAA All-Region and 2nd-team All-CCAA honors during his senior season.
The "Jaret Minami Memorial Scholarship Fund" has been established, and the family is asking that donations be made to this fund in lieu of flowers, which will create an endowment scholarship in Jaret's honor.
Checks should be made payable to CSUDH Foundation with the notation "Jaret Minami Memorial Scholarship," and can be sent to CSU Dominguez Hills, c/o Office of Development, 1000 East Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747.

Men's soccer head coach Terry Davila announced that freshman Joseph Franco signed a national letter of intent to play for the Matadors beginning in the 2008 season. An outside back, Franco adds depth to the Matador backline and has experienced high levels of success while playing with the Los Angeles Futbol Club."Joe possesses a great speed, good defensive awareness and a willingness to help the team achieve its goals."
Franco was recently a member of the LAFC U-18 team that went to the U.S.
Soccer Development Academy U-17/18 Championships finals, losing a thrilling
overtime match, 4-2, to the Baltimore Bays.He played his high school soccer at St. Francis High School in La Canada-
Flintridge, Calif., helping head coach Glen Apples compile a 25-2-1 record in
2007.
