Other media outlets are confirming this afternoon what Phil Collin wrote in his Galaxy-Chivas USA game story last night that many of you read here: "Sources said the Galaxy are expected to have a press conference next week to announce the hiring of Arena."

I'm betting the press conference is Monday.

Confirming the story are blogs like Soccer Insider and Soccer By Ives.

The latter notes former Chicago Coach Dave Sarachan will be Arena's assistant, leading one to wonder whether the Galaxy will retain Cobi Jones as well, if only for the sake of much-needed continuity.

I really can't believe that Arena would take this job, knowing how loony Galaxy management is -- especially since he might very well be working w/a president or GM with whom he might clash. Is Arena going to have imput into that or will that solely be Leiweke's decision?

Leiweke should be prepared for a rocky ride because Arena will not tolerate corporate BS for very long -- especially from terminal incompetents like Leiweke.

I'm open minded about Arena, but I think it would be really cold to dump Cobi. He's almost the only link remaining to the days when the Galaxy were a quality club, not to mention the way long-term fans feel about him.

It would be almost like they - want - us not to care about this team. Naah, that can't be it.
