Yawn.
Apparently undeterred by discounted ticket prices, small crowds and a less than inspiring third-place finish among four teams last year at the inaugural Pan-Pacific Championship held last year in Hawaii, the Galaxy will host the second edition in Carson next month.
With David Beckham apparently still in Italy with AC Milan when the PPC is held Feb. 18 and 21 with doubleheaders each day, the Galaxy will host Asian champions Oita Trinita (Japan), Suwon Samsung Bluewings (Korea), and Shandong Luneng Taishan (China).
It’s your basic pre-season tournament, although a just released press release rather grandiosely observes that last year’s version “was embraced by soccer fans worldwide” (and no, I haven’t met these embracers either).
Tickets go on sale Monday, although prices weren’t disclosed, which is never a good sign. As of this writing the tournament Web site hasn’t been updated either.
