Chivas USA Open Preseason Camp

Overshadowed by the David Beckham soap opera was the opening Wednesday of the Chivas USA preseason camp:

*Former Galaxy defender Ante Jazic was there having been signed to a new contract in the wake of his trade. The Canadian had played 44 games with the Galaxy over the last three years. He's only the second player who could feature for both of the intra-stadium rivals in a SuperClasico. (Extra points if you can name the other - answer at the bottom of the post).

*So was new Assistant Coach Carlos Llamosa. He took over from Mike Matkovich who was named coach of the U.S. Men's National Team (and also subsequently assistant coach with the Chicago Fire). Llamosa played sparingly for Chivas USA for two years.

*More on the camp (and hirsute news) is on the official Chivas USA blog.

*Finally, here's the ticket deal of the week from Chivas USA: five games for $50 including those against the Galaxy July 11, the Chicago Fire (and Senor Blanco) May 28, as well as the season opener March 21 against the Colorado Rapids and final game Oct. 25 against the Houston Dynamo. The April 18 game against Sigi Schmid's expansion Seattle Soiunders is in there as well.

And that's not all: the so-called All-Star pack also includes a ticket to a SuperLiga game for a limited time.

Trivia answer: The only Galaxy player (so far) to turn out for Chivas USA in a derby was defensive midfielder Paulo Nagamura.

Not sure if following meets your trivia question criteria but Sasha Victorine, Shavar Thomas and Ante Razov wore both shirts as well. I think Victorine was still with the Galaxy when the team moved to Victoria Street. Shavar was traded in preseason (another smart LA move) and of course Ante began his career with LA at the Rose Bowl.

Nick replies: You are right (I meant players who had played in a derby game between the two teams I just didn't write that!) and I didn't mean to include players like Razov who played for the Galaxy before Chivas USA existed. Clarification made above. Thanks, Studs Up.
