Galaxy to Host Second Edition of Pan-Pacific Championship Scheduled for Home Depot Center Next Month

donald0002.jpgYawn.

Apparently undeterred by discounted ticket prices, small crowds and a less than inspiring third-place finish among four teams last year at the inaugural Pan-Pacific Championship held last year in Hawaii, the Galaxy will host the second edition in Carson next month.

With David Beckham apparently still in Italy with AC Milan when the PPC is held Feb. 18 and 21 with doubleheaders each day, the Galaxy will host Asian champions Oita Trinita (Japan), Suwon Samsung Bluewings (Korea), and Shandong Luneng Taishan (China).

It's your basic pre-season tournament, although a just released press release rather grandiosely observes that last year's version "was embraced by soccer fans worldwide" (and no, I haven't met these embracers either).

Tickets go on sale Monday, although prices weren't disclosed, which is never a good sign. As of this writing the tournament Web site hasn't been updated either.

Preseason games in LA @ HDC = cool.

Shame I can't enjoy them at the HDC... (hope to fly over again in fall for some games).

I'm happy since usually these games are covered with an online stream, so I can enjoy it too or suffer...

I don't mind the opposition, nor being without the 2 Euroloanies.

Still:
why no 2nd MLS team?
why no A-League team?
why are the Galaxy qualified - it can't be the hosts (it wasn't the case last year)
will the Galaxy always be qualified for that cup now ?
will MLS & AEG hand out free tickets to season ticket holders/familys/schools or fly in a sell out from Asia.
