Galaxy, Chivas USA Host Bone Marrow Drive Tuesday & Training Camp Updates
Fairly short notice I know, but the Galaxy and Chivas USA announced Monday that they would co-host a bone marrow drive the following day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Event Suite 1 in Home Depot Center.
The (edited) press release:
The LA Galaxy, Chivas USA and The Home Depot Center are asking fans and the Los Angeles community to join in their efforts to assist Marcia Williams, the wife of Real Salt Lake and Jamaican National Team midfielder Andy Williams, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and has been unable to find a match through the national donor registry. The matches do not have to be in the same ethnicity, but similar backgrounds make a match far more likely and ethnic donors are considerably harder to find, according to the National Marrow Donor Program.
City of Hope will be on site to facilitate the process, which entails completing a short questionnaire and then giving a swab of cheeks cells. Please note, while we are seeking to find a match for Marcia, all donors will be entered into the NATIONAL BONE MARROW REGISTRY and may be contacted if they are a match for someone in need.
Meanwhile, although I was unable to get out to the Galaxy or Chivas USA camps today, while on a teleconference call with U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati (see Tuesday's column for more on that) the respective teams reported that:
*Free agent defender Yohance Marshall, a Trinidad & Tobago Under-21 international and four-year starter at South Florida, joined the Galaxy camp.
*Argentine defender midfielder Fernando Screpis, who formerly played for Scottish team Hearts, has joined the Chivas USA camp along with midfielder Miloš Pejovic

Is Screpis a midfielder or defender?

refers to him as a midfielder?
Nick replies: You are right. He's primarily a midfielder.
