Galaxy Goalkeeper Wicks Traded to DCU

In a move that was expected, the Galaxy receive a conditional draft pick from D.C. United for 25-year-old Josh Wicks who made five rather shaky starts last season, but became superfluous to requirements with the signing of de facto No. 1 Donovan Rickets and the emergence of Josh Saunders.

Also, the Galaxy are finalizing (presumably developmental) contracts for youngsters A.J. DeLaGarza and Yohance Marshall.

And just to clarify, given Tony Sanneh's inclusion in the new Galaxy media guide handed out today, it's clear (just in case anyone had doubts) that he's made the team. Of course, the likes of Josh Boateng and Brandon McDonald were listed in the media guide, too, and neither of them are on the roster now.

I'll have more from Landon Donovan's press conference at the Home Depot Center shortly.

Haha - is DC trying to become worse than the Galaxy...

Thanks guys for taking him off our roster!

The Galaxy can only offer 1 developmental contract
3 of the 4 spots currently are occupied by the 3 generation adidas guys (Gonzalez, Bowen and Sesay)

A.J. DeLaGagarza is listed as a senior on the official roster, while Marshall is not yet included.

You called this one awhile back Nick. Does inclusion in the media guide normally indicate whether or not a player actually makes the team or is it a "just in case" sort of thing?

What do think of Sanneh's chances? Is he 2009's version of Greg Vanney? Xavier?

Nick replies: There's been no official announcement yet, but it looks to me that Sanneh is on the roster. For one thing he's in the media guide. Second, Bruce today talked about needing his leadership on the field and third with no Osman Chavez signing now likely it appears Arena will be pairing the veteran in the middle of central defense with rookie Omar Gonzalez.

As for the media guide, well, as with all print products they are slave to their deadlines and the PR staff aren't always privy to the coach's thoughts (as we saw in the case of Boateng and McDonald, for instance). But it can be a pretty good indication of what's going on.
