The Los Angeles Sol of Women’s Professional Soccer have signed attacking midfielder/forward Martina Franko, a Los Altos-born naturalized Canadian citizen, from the Vancouver Whitecaps, team officials confirmed Friday.

The team will formally announce the signing of the 33-year-old veteran, who has more than 45 Canadian caps and won a pair of W-League titles with the Whitecaps, in the coming days.

Franko, who played for Colorado College, is the daughter of Czech Republic-born parents who were at one time the seventh-ranked international ice dance partners in the world, according to a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation profile prepared for the 2008 Olympics.
