What to love about the Galaxy: The fact that the team is giving away tickets to its season-ticket holders. To wit (courtesy http://www.mls-daily.com):

The Los Angeles Galaxy front office has apparently had enough of seeing the team play home matches in a half-filled stadium while they await the second coming of HRH Golden Balls. In an effort to fill the Home Depot Center now, the club sent out an e-mail last night informing all season ticket holders that they would be receiving one free ticket for each season ticket in their account, good for the Galaxy’s next home game, May 2nd against the New York Red Bulls. Crafted as a “thank you” to their loyal fans, the move illustrates the difficulty that the club is having in trying to sell people on the still-winless Galaxy.

Several factors – the stalled economy, extremely overpriced tickets, poor on-field performance and the absence of David Beckham – have culminated in the first quarter of the 2009 season, resulting in the Galaxy being easily ousted from the top of the league’s attendance rankings. Bypassed by the expansion Seattle Sounders FC (29,939) and third-year club Toronto FC (20,465), Los Angeles currently sits third in average home attendance after three fixtures (19,346) – a far cry from last season, when the team averaged just over 26,000 per game and had announced sellouts of 27,000 at 11 of their 15 home matches.

    Here’s the e-mail in it’s entirety:
During this two-week break from home games, we have a thank you gift and a Season Ticket Holder benefit to remind you about.

First, as a gesture of appreciation for your support as Season Ticket Holders, we are matching each full season ticket with a complimentary ticket for our next home game, on Saturday, May 2 vs. New York Red Bulls at 7:30 p.m. We value your support and hope that you will give these tickets to people who support the Galaxy. To print these tickets yourself or forward them to your guests, please log on to your online Galaxy Account Manager. Your Galaxy Season Ticket Account must be in good standing in order to receive these tickets, and they are available only through Sunday, April 26, so don’t wait!

Please keep an eye out over the next two weeks for more Season Ticket Holder gifts, which will be arriving by mail to the primary mailing address on your account.

Next, please remember that the first of three exchange dates is coming up on Sunday, May 17! If you have unused season tickets from any of the first five games this season, we encourage you to take advantage of the exchange policy to get more use out of your season tickets. You can exchange up to one game’s worth of unused season tickets for May 17, one game’s worth for June 13, and one game’s worth for September 19. Parking passes, add-ons, complimentary tickets, and resold tickets are not eligible for exchange. You can read more about exchanges by clicking here. Please call me at 310-630-2299 if you have any questions or would like to arrange an exchange.

We look forward to seeing you (and your guests) back at The Home Depot Center on May 2. In the meantime, please follow along with the team as they visit Colorado on April 25.

Why do I love this? Because it represents one more nail in the professional coffin of Tim “Let’s Charge $40 for Parking” Lie-weakly.
