U.S. Open Cup Tuesday Gameday
It's only a preliminary round game and only the most hard-core fans will be there, but the Galaxy play a return fixture against the Colorado Rapids at 8 p.m. at Home Depot Center with the winner moving on to the next round to play Seattle or Real Salt Lake for a berth in the U.S. Open Cup.
Injuries
Leonard Griffin (Sports Hernia Surgery) is out; Edson Buddle (right quad strain), Todd Dunivant (right ankle), Mike Magee (bruised right foot), Donovan Ricketts (groin strain) are questionable; and Eddie Lewis (left Hamstring strain) is probable.

*Alan Gordon's second half goal against Colorado has been nominated for Sierra Mist MLS Goal of the Week. Vote here.
*Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey was voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 3. (You're welcome).
Trivia
*Saturday's loss to the Rapids was the 400th game in Galaxy history. Their all-time record: 184-152-64. Saturday's game kept one streak alive: the Galaxy have lost their 100th, 200th, 300th and now 400th games in club history.
*Saturday's game between the Galaxy and Rapids was just the second time in MLS history neither goalkeeper recorded a save in a game. Colorado scored on all of their three shots on target, the Galaxy on their two. Shoot more! The last time this happened: May 18, 2005, when Real Salt Lake beat Chivas USA, 2-0. Brad Guzan was in goal for Chivas USA.

About 100 Percent Soccer

Why can't the USSF put together some coverage of the US Open Cup or hand over the license to do so to SUM ?
I find it retarded that MLS teams have to play play-in games, and even worse against each other.
That eliminates the "bigger names" even before the Cup really starts.
Is there any background history on why there's no coverage and such a strange mode?
Nick replies: Not really. Few care about the competition although most MLS coaches won't come out and say that. And MLS doesn't promote it because it's not their competition.
That said, I'll blog from the HDC tonight for those who are interested.
Gordon scores the goal of the week?? You have got to be kidding me.. who nominated that?? It was a redirect from a yard out, unchallenged, wide open goal. That was a sad, horrible game for the Galaxy ... though the Rapids didn't look very good either.
And my hope that Arena can turn them around is faltering. How can anyone in their right mind start Alan Gordon? And then leave him in for 82 minutes? God help us.
Nick replies: I'm hoping it was nominated for the build-up rather than the finish; but still, it underlines how weak these weekly awards can be.

Nick replies: No, I didn't (sorry about that). This was one of those occasions that when I reviewed the tape it wasn't particularly illuminating. I used the only decent quote from Berhalter in today's column, which I just posted..
And it will be a few weeks before the Sesay situation is resolved.
Sesay has been assimiliated by the Borg. He is now, officially, a non-person. He will be air-brushed out of all Galaxy history. Resistance is futile! BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
