Half Time: Galaxy at Sounders
Sounders 1 Galaxy 1
Referee Tim Weyland was once again the center of attention at an MLS game with a non-call just before half time against the Galaxy's Demo Kovalenko, who seemed to bring down Nate Jaqua in the six yard box.
Weyland was roundly booed off the field at the break, with the Galaxy perhaps fortunate to escape the PK call.
The Sounders have had the better of the attacking play during the half, but the Galaxy are rising to the occasion and had one of their more resilient halves of the season.
The Galaxy always looked threatening on the counter attack and this one is by no means over. Both teams have three shots on goal apiece.
A large contingent of traveling L.A. Riot Squad and Angel City Brigade fans are on hand - a pleased President of Business Operations Tom Payne estimated about 80 or so - although they are tucked away in one corner and not easy to see in this large crowd that is almost a sea of green.
It's my first soccer game in Seattle since the days of the NASL and while Qwest Field is an improvement on the artificial Kingdome, the glassed in press box means the atmosphere is a bit lacking up here.
Still, the view of downtown Seattle gives a city feel to the stadium and it certainly felt like a game in Europe being able to walk to the game from the surrounding bars and restaurants.
