I'm a mite late with this I know (blame Beckham), but I did want to acknowledge the visit to the White House Monday by the MLS champion Columbus Crew.

Among those attending were Sigi Schmid, last year's MLS Coach of the Year when he was with the Crew, and a long-time Torrance resident (he still owns a place in Manhattan Beach while coaching the Sounders), as well as midfielder Robbie Rogers, who grew up in Rolling Hills Estates. (And so as not to miss any locals Riverside's Chad Marshall, last year's Defender of the Year, was also there).

BTW, that's Schmid and Rogers standing just behind the President.

Good to see MLS getting a little recognition from the Obama administration.

Wonder how awkward that was for Schmid considering his somewhat acrimonious departure from the Crew?

Here's the complete text of the President's remarks at the event.
