Ten players with local ties were named to the lists for the trophy awarded annually to the best male and female collegiate players in the country:

*Lawndale's Rafael Baca, a junior forward, became the first Loyola Marymount player ever named to the list (there are 38 male players total on the list this year).

*Palos Verdes Estates' Kyle Nakazawa, a senior midfielder at UCLA who was on the watch list a year ago, but played just 10 games after his season was cut short through injury.

*Also named for the Bruins was midfielder and PAC-10 Player of the Year Michael Stephens, who is from Napierville, Ill.

*Upland's Lauren Barnes, a junior defender at UCLA, was one of 45 female players named to the list.

*Rolling Hills Estates' Whitney Engen, a senior defender at North Carolina.

*Thousand Oaks' Kelsey Davis, a senior goalkeeper at Portland, who transferred out of UCLA after the 2005 season.

*Diamond Bar's Alex Morgan, a junior forward at Cal.

*Other Bruins named were Lauren Cheney, a senior forward from Indianapolis who has led UCLA in scoring the last three seasons, and sophomore forward Sydney Leroux from Vancouver B.C. who was last year's MVP and top scorer at the FIFA Under-20 World Championships in Chile.

*USC senior goalkeeper Kristin Olsen of Orange is also on the watch list for the second consecutive year.
