Thursday Kicks: Sol, Beckham's Academy & More
Three in the morning:
*A three-round WPS dispersal draft for the 20 players from the defunct Sol begins at 10 a.m. today. St. Louis has the first pick: Marta or Torrance's Shannon Boxx?
*The disintegration of the Carson-based David Beckham Academy is apparently all but complete (and yes, I'm aware the link to the local academy redirects to Beckham's defunct London branch, which merely underlines the point): Stephen Myles, 48, the academy's director of competition the last two years has joined the New England Revolution as assistant coach.
He also spent the last two seasons coaching the LA Galaxy's Under-16 team and was at Sheffied United for nine years before relocating to the U.S.
Kenny Arena - the son of Galaxy coach Bruce Arena - is now head coach of the U-16 team, BTW.
*Finally, the USWNT is wrapping up its three-week camp at Home Depot Center ahead of the Algarve Cup.

Well, if the kids are any good, there is the Chivas USA academy.
Talent is talent > no matter socio-economic-language-culture
And another Goldenballs publicity stunt / naked money grab comes to its inevitable conclusion.
Nick, was Anthony Myles one of those whom Leiweke allowed 19 Entertainment to bring into the Galaxy? And what did Myles do at Sheffield United (physio, like Terry Byrne? boot-room attendant? what exactly?)
He coached United's youth teams mostly in Sheffield; he was also reserve team coach there for a few seasons.
Hey.., bit of old news on the DBA..., closed right before Christmas in LA. No warning shots fired or anything. They kept real quiet as well.
Nick, did Myles join the Galaxy at 19's behest or separately, to the best of your knowledge?
I guess I should also ask whether Beckham is out of the academy business for good, if the Carson and London branches are closed?
I'll have more on the academy's closure in a story that will run Sunday in the Daily Breeze. I'll post the link on this blog.
