Sad news. Never like to see any player injured. This is not an easy injury to get over for a soccer player. Makes me wonder if Becks should have listened to his old body and slowed down.

Up-shot: Galaxy now has to fast-forward to their post-Beckham game plan. A quality striker should be affordable now.

Studs Up, Beckham’s salary still counts against the cap, despite his injured status. Not until his contract expires will the Galaxy be able to get his salary off its books.

Besides, Beckham really wasn’t going to listen to his body. He was under too much pressure from Capello to make England’s World Cup team, and under too much pressure from MLS to make a splash. I’m wondering how all that pressure might have taken a toll emotionally, as well as physically.

This whole Beckham situation is something fit for a tragic Greek playwright.

Here’s something else to chew on:

Remember when Beckham had troubles with his left ankle before he came here and played on it when he came here? I’m wondering whether that put any extra strain on his Achilles. Any kineseologists out there?

  • Studs Up

Not sure if Galaxy doesn’t have an option under the salary cap for season-ending injuries. Insurance has to weigh in somehow as well.

I actually think Beckham put Caplello under pressure by publically campaigning for a spot. What is a coach going to say except play well and we’ll see. Capello is definitely relieved of that burdon now.

So this old boy simply succumbed to the “old athlete syndrome” of not knowing when to slow down or quit. MLS off season would have done that idiot a lot of good.

I also think Beckham’s treatment and rehab at the Galaxy and AC Milan should be investigated. How many people tear an Achilles’ tendon merely by shifting weight from one foot to another? I’m certainly no kinesiologist but I can’t help but think that his previous ankle injury affected his Achilles — and that whatever treatment or rehab he did on that left ankle was incompetent.
