Final: Galaxy-Chivas USA

Galaxy 2 Chivas USA 0

Edson Buddle scored his second goal of the game – and third in two games – with an 87th minute goal from Landon Donovan to send the Galaxy’s record to 2-0.

With Chivas USA pushing forward in search of an equalizer, Mike Magee supplied Donovan with a nice little touch at midfield, Donovan eluded a sluggish Michael Umana and unselfishly crossed to Buddle who had a simple task of sliding it home.

The Galaxy deserved the win and Chivas USA only have themselves to blame for going 0-2 for the first time since their 2005 inaugural season (and we know how that turned out).

Sub Maicon Santos had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 80th minute when Sacha Kljestan’s perceptive chip beat Galaxy central defender Leonardo and ended up on the foot of Jesus Padilla. Padilla was unable to get a shot away, but Santos whipped the ball over the bar from just five yards out with only the goalkeeper to beat. (Updated: I’m belatedly told the flag was up for offside anyway – still, it was an awful miss).

More later.

Nick – was Buddle offsides on that second goal against Chivas?
