The World Cup Call

For some it will come Tuesday, for others it won’t – and even then it’s only the 30-player pre-World Cup camp roster, not the final 23, although barring injury all players heading to South Africa must be on the preliminary roster due to FIFA.

The announcement is at 11 a.m. on ESPN2 ESPNews.

Phil Collin caught up with Chivas USA’s Sacha Kljestan and Jonathan Bornstein after Saturday’s game against the Houston Dynamo and asked how they feel with the announcement approaching.

Said Kljestan:

“I’ve been working for this for four years now and obviously it’s the biggest sporting event in the world and everybody is kind of ready I guess for it to start. Obviously I want to be a part of it. I’ve worked my whole life to try to achieve this goal and I really want to be part of the team so we’ll see what happens.

“I’ve tried to do as best as I could over the course of the beginning of the season and I feel like over the past five or six seasons I’ve been really good and I feel really confident and I feel I left it all out there on the field, I ran my ass off and I ran hard. If I don’t make it I’m not going to regret I did anything wrong.

Said Bornstein:

“I hope everything goes well. It’s been a long road since the last World Cup, since Bob took over and I feel like I’ve been a part of it since the beginning and I hope I can continue to be part of it. Tuesday is a big day for a lot of guys and I just hope to be on the right side of it.”

Also today, following in the footsteps of Edson Buddle, Landon Donovan was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters. Donovan had a hand in all five of the Galaxy’s goals in two games – and two wins – last week.
