First off, yours truly debuts on KPFK 90.7 FM tonight at 11:30 talking about the U.S. Men’s National Team and the World Cup in general.

Apparently they are foolish enough to have me on as a regular guest during the World Cup on a show that will run during the tournament.

The interview is about 17 minutes long and should be available as a podcast next week.

Also, another Hollywood heavyweight has joined the U.S. World Cup bid (in what will be the only time in his career this actor takes second billing to me):

NEW YORK (AP) — The United States has added more star power to its bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cups, putting actor Brad Pitt on the committee trying to bring back soccer’s premier event.

Pitt accepted an invitation to join the USA Bid Committee, the group said Wednesday.

“Soccer is a truly global sport and the opportunity to join the effort to have the U.S. host the world’s greatest sporting event again is a great honor,” Pitt said in a statement. The U.S. staged the tournament in 1994.

Former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and comedian Drew Carey also are on the committee.

The U.S. is competing with Australia, England, Russia, Spain-Portugal and Netherlands-Belgium for both tournaments. Japan, Qatar and South Korea are bidding for 2022 only, believing Europe is a lock for 2018 because eight of 24 voters are from that region.
