K’naan will perform the World Cup anthem “Wavin’ Flag” at today’s kickoff “celebration concert.”

As I write this ESPN’s 85 hours of studio programming is under way leading up to the 11 a.m. pre-tournament concert that includes performances at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto by Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Anglique Kidjo), Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Tour and Vusi Mahlasela, among others.

The three-hour concert is on ESPN2.

The “Countdown to Kickoff” began at 7 a.m. and runs for 24 hours (!) on ESPN2 leading into the opening match – host nation South Africa vs. Mexico – at 6:30 a.m. Friday from Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
