Galaxy’s Gonzalez to serve one-game suspension against Revolution Saturday*

*Post updated and corrected

Why?

Because he received an 84th-minute yellow card against Seattle Saturday Real Salt Lake June 9 no one knew about since the ref erroneously wrote that he gave it to fellow defender Todd Dunivant and not Omar Gonzalez, who was on a yellow card warning having been booked four previous times this season. (Well, they – ahem – look alike).

MLS discovered the error and corrected it today – almost a month later! (He had previously received yellows April 10, May 1, May 15, and May 29).

(Full disclosure: In my haste scanning the news release I incorrectly assumed it was from the most recent Galaxy game – not one from so long ago. Doh!).

A fifth yellow triggers an automatic one-game suspension (if it’s received within a certain period of time).

It will be the first-ever MLS game Gonzalez has missed since joining the Galaxy.

It shouldn’t be too much of a loss to the ultra-stable and virtually leak-proof back four though. The 3-9-2 New England Revolution have scored just 13 goals this season – the third-lowest total in the league – are winless in their last three games and were routed 5-0 last weekend by Real Salt Lake.

Guess Omar has an excellent sense of timing off the field, too.
