Halftime: Galaxy-Real Madrid

Galaxy 2 Real Madrid 0

Not a half of football we’ll got to bed dreaming about tonight, but the Galaxy players on the field won’t soon forget it.

Landon Donovan scored from the penalty spot just before the half ended after Royston Ricky Drenthe had fouled Juninho with an extremely high (and initially nasty looking) boot to the head.

After an shaky start, the Galaxy gained in confidence as the half wore on.

New Real signing Angel Di Maria, undoubtedly wanting to impress his new boss, had the best two chances for Madrid.

Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts had to stretch to meet a Di Maria shot and push it around the far post in the 19th minute after he was set up by Rafael van der Vaart, while Ricketts again needed to dive to save a Di Maria shot in the 33rd minute that was heading for the corner of the net.

The Galaxy had eight shots in the first half, twice as many as Real Madrid.

Cristiano Ronaldo is on to start the second half for Real Madrid in place of Di Maria, BTW.
