*Sophomore Pepperdine forward Michelle Manning of Calabasas (Agoura High) scored in thje 23rd minute and the Waves (7-3-2) shocked No. 11 UCLA (7-3-1) at Drake Stadium with their first win over the Bruins since 1993. The road win also snapped UCLA’s 73-game, five-year-old home unbeaten streak, the nation’s longest.
“To come here and do this, where UCLA has such a mystique, we had to overcome that,” Pepperdine Coach Tim Ward said. “It had to happen eventually, and it had been a long time since we beat them. They always have been and always will be such a great program. We needed a win like this as our season moves forward and we work toward the NCAA Tournament. Our defense played very, very well again. Michelle scored a very opportunistic goal. I’m so proud of the team.”
Sophomore goalkeeper Roxanne Barker of Irvine (Woodbridge High) stopped five shots to earn the shutout.
In other local college games Friday:

*The Loyola Marymount men won their West Coast Conference opener over San Francisco, freshman Christian Alvarado getting the winner in the 45th minute.
*The LMU women ended non-conference play by beating Cal State Fullerton 1-0 at Sullivan Field. Senior Julie Gallaudet scored the game-winner four minutes into OT.
