Monday Kicks: Beach soccer, Cuban defector & more

*U.S. Beach Soccer Men’s National Team head coach Eddie Soto has named 18 players to a camp ahead of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship Nov. 10-13 in Huntington Beach.

Locals include goalkeeper Mike McAndrews (UC Santa Barbara; Long Beach), defender Joe Cartlidge (So Cal Beach FC; Redondo Beach); forwards Skyler Thuresson (PSA Elite; Long Beach) and Raphael Xexeo (BS Club; Brasil; Lawndale). Former Galaxy player Zak Ibsen is also on the squad.

The camp will be used to select a squad of 12 for FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifying Dec. 1-5 in Puerto Vallarta.

*Cuban defector Yeniel Bermudez, who apparently tried out with the Galaxy and Chivas USA, is not looking forward to a long Alaska winter.

*Los Angeles-based Fox Soccer Channel has revamped its prime time lineup as of today that includes a three-hour EPL block beginning at 4 p.m.

Incidentally, that means Kyle Martino’s “Soccer Talk Live,” the show with the cable access production values and cardboard set, (Freddie Ljungberg was interviewed via Skype tonight) now airs at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Mondays. What is with all the video game ads with this show?
