Monday wrap

Before I head for Seatac and Southern California and leave the heavy rain expected here all day behind I just have time to note that:

*The U.S. women simply need to avoid losing to Costa Rica at 6:30 p.m. today to win Group B in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. The won their first two games against Haiti and Guatemale by a combined score of 14-0. There’s no TV.

*The Loyola Marymount women (10-6-2, 2-2-2 WCC) upset 10th-ranked Santa Clara 2-0 on Sunday to run their unbeaten streak to three games and remain in the huint for an NCAA tournament berth.

*The Santa Clara men scored twice in a two-minute span to come from behind and beat LMU (9-5-2, 5-2-1 WCC) 2-1 in a battle for first place in the West Coast Conference Sunday at Sullivan Field. The Lions now sit in third with 16 points, three behind Santa Clara and one behind Portland, but have a game in hand on both teams.

*USC (11-4-3) beat visiting Washington 2-0 in their final home game of the year. … UCLA (10-7-1) beat Washington State 2-0 at Drake Stadium. … Long Beach State (12-5-2) lost 1-0 to UC Davis in their regular season finale and will host third-seeded Cal State Northridge Thursday in the semis of the Big West Conference Tournament. … Cal State Northridge (12-8) beat Seattle University, 3-1. … The CSUDH women (12-5-1) ended their season with a 3-2 overtime win over Cal State San Bernardino. … The CSUDH men (12-5-1) beat their Cal State San Bernardino counterparts 1-0 and open the CCAA Championship Tournament Friday against Chico State.
