*Could Women’s Professional Soccer return to Southern California via the Bay Area? I’ve been hearing some of these same reports. I’m not as optimistic as the tone of this story, despite tweets from WPS folks lately indicating talks with potential investors have picked up in recent days as reported deadlines for preventing the demise of FC Gold Pride and the Washington Freedom grows closer. Still, Titan Stadium seems the obvious venue if the Sol is to return.

*Senior Lyndsay Bullock, a product of Manhattan Beach’s Mira Costa Highis seeking to prolong her college career as Long Beach State plays Cal State Northridge in the heat this afternoon. The game kicks off at 3 p.m. at George Allen Field.

*Finally, the U.S. Women’s National team plays Mexico at 5 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tournament. There’s no TV. Canada and Costa Rica face off in the other semifinal.

The winners of the semifinals will not only earn berths to Germany, but will play for the Confederation championship at 6 p.m. Monday. The losers of the semifinals will square off in the third place match for the right to face Italy in a two leg, home-and-home series to determine the final berth to the World Cup next year in Germany.
