Galaxy acquire international roster slot from D.C. United

But that doesn’t mean another international signing is on the way.

The slot comes in exchange for allocation money.

That gives the Galaxy eight international slots with the additional spot, which expires after the 2012 season.

And how many international players does the Galaxy have on its roster? Eight in all – Juan Pablo Angel, David Beckham, Chris Birchall, Daniel Keat, Miguel Lopez, Paulo Cardozo, Leonardo and Juninho.

In 2011, there were a total of 144 international slots divided among the 18 MLS clubs. Each club began with eight international slots, which are tradable.

There is no limit on the number of international slots on each club’s roster.

The Galaxy had traded one international slot to Portland around the time of the Supplemental Draft and had nine international players on its roster.

But goalkeeper Donovan Rickets got his green card and now with the trade all the Galaxy’s international players have the required designation/slot on the roster.

Got that?
