The Galaxy have Seattle’s number.

Game story.

*Seattle never seriously challenged the make-shift central defensive duo of Leonardo and A.J. DeLaGarza.

*David Beckham had a largely terrible game including hoofing a shot amateurishly over the bar, straining to make any significant impact beyond unimaginative passes and generally spending the game whining on the wing.

*Reserve goalkeeper Josh Saunders kept the Sounders at bay filling in admirably and competently for the injured Donovan Ricketts.

Tweeted the missing Omar Gonzalez:

Doing everything I can o get back as soon as possible… Wish I could of been out there battling with my teammates! Job well done Galaxy!!

Here’s the Seattle perspective on the game and their “boogey-team.”

The Jabulani giveth, the Jabulani taketh away. Juninho’s shot swerved hard right just before getting to Keller, who was perfectly positioned to parry the ball. It swerved and glanced off the thumb-side of his right hand into the goal. Reminded me of Kirovski’s goal against Keller last year, which swerved just as unpredictably.

Thing is, the Jabulani is as likely to swerve off-target as on-target. I have to say I hate those things.

A so-so game for the G’s. Passing was very ragged, but under tough conditions, with the ball skipping and catching on the turf in the rain, depending on how much standing water there was.

Donovan got hammered twice badly in the first half, first by Keller knee to the ribs and then by cleats to the quad. He was a bit less effective offensively after that, tho he did his usual great work coming back to help out defensively especially in the last 15 minutes. I wonder how sore he was this morning.

    Beckham was a non-entity.

Soccer should not be played on a carpet. PERIOD.

There are many problems with LA but I’ll wait until I see them play a few more games before commenting further. But over $500,000 for the Magee/Barrett combo is idiotic.
