Thursday Kicks: Angel’s Galaxy scoring drought & more

*It seemed like a good idea at the time.

With top scorer Edson Buddle gone to Germany and the top MLS goalscorer in the last four years dropped by New York, Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena was always going to go with a veteran known quantity he had originally brought to the Red Bulls.

But now Juan Pablo Angel has just one goal and one assist in eight games and some fans (and readers of this blog) are already turning on him, especially since Angel has not just failed to score, he’s often been a complete non-factor.

“That’s very concerning, and we’re talking about it,” Angel told the New York Post. “That’s what we’ve been working on. Hopefully things will change, not just for me, but for the whole team to create more chances. We have the ability to create a little bit more.”

(Here, by the way, is the MLS top scorer in case you were wondering).

Lewis, of course, was writing ahead of Saturday’s Galaxy-New York game in Carson between the two respective conference leaders.
