*Full disclosure: I missed the game to observe my wife’s (ahem) birthday. But I watched the game and there’s not much analysis needed for this one anyway.

Everything went to script for the Galaxy except the opening goal. Landon Donovan continues to fire on all cylinders to score twice and lead the league in scoring, David Beckham scores from a free kick, even Juan Pablo Angel finally scored and Chad Barrett, who has similar trouble scoring, instead concentrated on creating two.

Everything went wrong for a dismal and defenseless (almost literally) Kansas City team playing a brutal stretch of 10 consecutive road games before their stadium opens (and who miss the unfit Omar Bravo) except for the gift of the opening goal. Seems they met Chivas USA at exactly the right moment of the season to win their season-opener in Carson and haven’t duplicated the result since.

Reporter Phil Collin has the game report.
