Chivas USA Wednesday gameday

Chivas USA (4-7-6), seventh place in the Western Conference with one win in their last five games, plays the San Jose Earthquakes (5-5-6), who sit three points and one place above them in the conference and have one loss in their last five games, clash at 7:30 tonight at Home Depot Center (live Fox Sports West).

*Here’s a game preview from our sister paper The San Jose Mercury News.

*Notable: Chivas USA striker Justin Braun has four goals in seven appearances against the Earthquakes; San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski has five goals in the last three games against Chivas USA.

*Chivas USA striker Alejandro Moreno remains on international duty; he played the final 25 minutes in Venezuela’s 0-0 draw with Brazil on Sunday at Copa America.

*Chivas USA midfielder Gerson Mayen, 22, of Los Angeles has received FIFA permission to represent El Salvador after previously turning out for U.S. youth teams. He is the second Los Angeles native to receive approval to switch allegiances from the U.S. to El Salvador this week, according to the Associated Press; Dustin Corea, who played for the U.S. as a youth, switched to El Salvador as a U-20 and promptly scored two goals, but was belatedly ruled ineligible for the Central American nation, can now play for the nation after all (got that?). Corea is looking at European offers.
