Take a beer bus from Torrance to the Galaxy game Saturday in Carson

I’ve often wondered why no enterprising South Bay bar owner hadn’t rented a bus to haul soccer fans back and forth from Home Depot Center.

Especially pub owners in Old Torrance, where, for instance, some LA Riot Squad members already gather for a cold one at the Red Car Brewery & Restaurant before and after games and some leave their cars in the parking lot and car pool together the 15 minutes or so to the stadium to avoid the ridiculous parking fees at the stadium.

Well, now one Torrance bar owner has done exactly that for Saturday’s Galaxy game against the Chicago Fire.

Surprisingly, the organizer is the new ownership behind The Crest, which is gradually morphing from dive bar to a sports bar and grill (already dozens of new flat screen televisions have been installed, as well as new booth seating).

The Crest, 1625 Cabrillo Ave., is offering a round-trip bus ride (and two beers) for $15 for fans who already have tickets or a $40 combo that also includes a game ticket in the LA Riot Squad section.

Already some Riot Squad members have signed up, I’m told.

But so far only about 10 people are scheduled to jump on the bus perhaps because the e-mail address on the flyer being circulated is incorrect (the bar owner only belatedly noticed that Wednesday night as he was showing it to me after I wandered in looking for a cool one after the Chivas USA game).

Doh!

Anyway, if you’re interested the correct e-mail address is THECRESTSBG@gmail.com.

I still think there’s a need for a decent soccer-friendly bar near the Home Depot Center.

The Off-Campus Pub across from the HDC (which was a little on the dive side for my taste anyway) has closed and morphed into Bananas Liquid Lounge or some such.

Alpine Village has a decent beer selection, but is a little large and has demographics that are more than a little on the, shall we say, elderly side.

Could The Crest (which next year will rip off its aging facade and open up the dark interior with massive doors/windows that will roll up) be a possible soccer hot spot?

The bus to the Galaxy game is a start.
