So how do you spell the name of the new USMNT coach anyway?
So what's your name anyway, sunshine? (AP Photo).
U.S. Soccer, at the request of coach Klinsmann, spells his first name "Jurgen."
The Associated Press uses his formal, given name, which is "Juergen," the spelling he uses on legal documents.
Klinsmann himself spells it Jürgen, with two dots above the "u," as you can see on his official website, which is the same way, incidentally, German media spell it.
So which is correct?
"It's actually not really a matter of what's correct, but rather what he prefers," said U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe via e-mail. "Jurgen, Jürgen or Juergen is correct, but he told us he prefers Jurgen (no dots above the u)."He thinks that is just easier. Now, you will see it the other ways, and those are actually correct (and in the end fine with him) as well."
Alrighty then.
Incidentally, in my cursory research I discovered the name means "Earth worker," which is pretty cool.
American soccer fans might wish it meant "miracle worker," which would be cooler still.
But if the U.S. has a bad result against Mexico next week (the roster could be released as soon as today, by the way) in his first game in charge fans may well come up with a different name for him anyway (ahem).
