Wednesday Kicks: MLS Power Rankings & more

A quick round-up of today’s headlines includes:

*Real Salt Lake have the chance to take sole possession of first place in the Western Conference and MLS on the road in Chicago tonight, putting more distance between themselves and the Galaxy, but must do so without goalkeeper Nick Rimando, according to our sister newspaper The Salt Lake Tribune.

*Still, RSL aren’t atop the MLS Power Rankings, according to another sister paper, the San Jose Mercury News.

*Even the Galaxy reserves are having trouble winning at home.

*Sueno MLS 2012 begins today at Home Depot Center with a field of 18 hopefuls seeking the prize of joining an MLS youth team. Locals involved include goalkeeper Jimmy Camacho, 16, Riverside; forward Armando Flores, 17, Santa Ana; and defenders Mauricio Gutierrez, 16, Los Angeles; Alejandro Nez, 17, Sylmar and George Zuniga, 16, Carson (a Chivas fan who attends Marcos Antonio Firebough High School).

The winner will be announced live at 8 a.m. on Univision’s Repblica Deportiva.

*If you follow me on Twitter, you already knew this, but look where former Galaxy midfielder Chris Birchall has turned up.

*Likewise, former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan is now a champion in Belgium.
