The Salary of Late-Season LA Galaxy signing Christian Wilhelmsson & other MLS wages

The much-traveled Swede is making almost $200,000 this year — $190,650 to be precise, according to updated figures released by the MLS Players Union.

Which is nice work if you can get it; the 32-year-old Wilhelmsson has played in two MLS games for the club so far and could potentially play up to 10 more (MLS regular season, Champions League and MLS playoffs). I’ll let you do the math.

Incidentally, while central defender A.J. DeLaGarza ($112,500 2012 salary and worth every penny) is confirmed as out for Saturday’s Real Salt Lake showdown in Carson (the Galaxy have not disclosed the severity of the knee injury) there are plenty of less than palatable deputies ready to step in.

They include rookie Tommy Meyer ($57,550) who has four starts this year; Andrew Boyens, 29, ($65,783.33) who made two (awful) starts so far in 2012; and David Junior Lopes, 30, ($47,250) who has (largely unconvincingly) 16 starts.

So that’s about $175,000 in round numbers to (not) replace DeLaGarza.

It could be worse: this chap is making $131,250 to sit on his butt all year as he continues to recover from injury.

Stanley’s Cup Supports the Gals

Is Assistant Galaxy Head Coach Dave Sarachan readying to fight his reflection?

Is a studious-looking Landon Donovan anticipating a hockey history test at the end of the training session?

Will striker Edson Buddle metaphorically look over Mike Magee’s shoulder for the rest of the season as he looks longingly at the opposition’s net?

And do they have trophies that big in New Zealand, Dan Keat?

The Stanley Cup visited the Galaxy at training today at Home Depot Center hopefully bringing inspiration as the postseason looms.ahead of a crucial stretch for the Galaxy that starts Saturday in Carson against Real Salt Lake.

Chivas USA (7-16-7) at Vancouver Whitecaps (10-12-9), 7 p.m. live on KDOC

If Chivas USA, now at six consecutive losses and without a win since July, fails to beat the Whitecaps in Vancouver tonight their season is finally over. Chivas USA have never beaten the Whitecaps in four attempts.

However, the Whitecaps haven’t won in seven games and are backing their way into the final and fifth playoff spot, two points ahead of FC Dallas.

Listening to these modest sound bites shouldn’t exactly fill Chivas USA fans with confidence though:
