Chivas USA Fires Coach Robin Fraser

The announcement hit my inbox at 6:44 p.m. Friday, a time when no one who wants any attention makes news announcements.

No surprise the firing occurred (GM Jose Domene will likely be next given his status on the Chivas USA totem pole) considering the season the Western Confernce dweller had but frankly former Galaxy defender Robin Fraser should probably have quit given the near total lack of resources from the absent ownership.

New 100 Percent Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara likely had this in mind all along anyway given the previously scheduled press conference set for Tuesday in Beverly Hills (you think he wants to come to Carson any more than most Chivas USA fans)?

There was no quote from Chivas USA ownership or management in the press release thanking the classy, articulate Fraser – perhaps Chivas USA’s best ambassador in the last two years – for his  service, a pithy MLS staple of such announcements that at least shows a degree of respect.

His record was 15-32-21 over two seasons; Chivas USA didn’t make the playoffs during his tenure.

Assistant Coach Greg Vanney, Technical Director and Head Scout Simon Elliott and Head Athletic Trainer Brian Lee were also punted. Here are the survivors (so far) on the coaching staff.

Chivas USA fires coach Robin Fraser, who (like Jesse Marsch) could succeed in the right situation. Chivas is a mess as a club.

What do you think? Was the firing deserved or just merely inevitable given the generally shambolic organization Fraser worked for?
