Let’s call the whole thing off: U.S. Goalkeeper Hope Solo’s marriage on rocks — before it even starts?

You never want to get arrested for assaulting your bride to be. Associated Press Writer Phuong Le has the story:

SEATTLE (AP) — Former Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens was arrested on suspicion of assaulting U.S. women’s soccer team goalkeeper Hope Solo — a day before their planned wedding, according to police and court records

But a Kirkland Municipal Court judge released Stevens after a court appearance Tuesday, saying there was no evidence connecting Stevens to any assault, according to news reports. He was arrested early Monday for fourth-degree domestic violence assault but
wasn’t charged.

Solo appeared in the courtroom Tuesday afternoon, but left without saying anything to reporters, according to KING-TV.

A call to a number listed for Stevens in court documents rang unanswered. A message left at a listed number for Solo was not immediately returned.

Stevens, 33, and Solo, 31, applied for a marriage license Thursday, according to King County records.

The two, who have been in a relationship for two months, were set to get married Tuesday and argued over whether to live in Washington or Florida after their marriage, according to court documents.

Police in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland responded to a disturbance at a home around 3:45 a.m. Monday involving a physical altercation between eight people during a party, said Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray.

He said officers contacted several people in the home who appeared intoxicated and didn’t cooperate with police, but determined based on information and observations that there was probable cause to arrest Stevens for investigation of fourth-degree assault. Murray didn’t identify the alleged victim, but court records show it was Solo, who received a cut to her elbow.

Court documents show that Solo’s 36-year-old brother, Marcus, called 911, and that he and Solo told officers there was a party and blamed the disturbance on two to three unknown men who were at the party. Marcus Solo told police he used a stun gun on one
of the men, who left the party before police arrived, according to court records.

According to court documents, a police officer found Stevens, “who appeared to be hiding,” lying between the bed and the wall in an upstairs bedroom. Stevens told officers he was sleeping on the floor and didn’t hear the fight. The officer saw signs of a
fight, and dried blood on Stevens’ shirt.

The officer noted in his affidavit for probable cause for arrest that he arrested Stevens based on his admission that he argued with Hope Solo, the injury to her elbow, signs of a fight in the bedroom where Stevens was found and blood on Stevens’ shirt.

One 32-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of a hip injury, and another man suffered multiple bumps, scrapes and contusions, Murray said.

“If officers find that an assault may have taken place, then we have to make an arrest on who we determine is the primary aggressor,” Murray said.

Stevens was selected with the No. 28 pick of the 2002 draft by the Seahawks after a stellar career on the field at Washington, but was mostly a bust.

He also was involved in incidents away from football that included reckless driving charges for crashing into a nursing home.

His run-ins with the law have also included a 2003 reckless driving charge and a 2007 DUI charge in Arizona.

Stevens’ most recent arrest came in 2010, while he was playing for Tampa Bay, when he was arrested the night before a game for possession of marijuana. He was almost immediately released by the team.

Weekly Column: LA Galaxy Gets Breather Before Final MLS Games

At least Galaxy fans hope — and expect — that’s plural games with only a possible pair left in the 2012 season.

Of course, that depends what happens Sunday in Seattle.

But the Galaxy held serve in Carson, if you will, and need only to ensure they don’t spectacularly implode in the Pacific Northwest.

For more, read today’s column here.

Chivas USA’s Aguedelo makes U.S. Roster for Wednesday’s Russia Friendly

Also on the youngish squad, former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan and former Galaxy striker Herculez Gomez.

No Landon Donovan, of course, with the Galaxy still in the MLS Cup hunt.

Promising, if vacillating, defender Timmy Chandler returns to the U.S. squad for the first time this year.

The game against No. 9-ranked Russia kicks off at 7 a.m. Wednesday on ESPN2 and Univision.

MLS: A bunch of LA Galaxy Dummies Beats Seattle

Western Conference Final: LA Galaxy 3 Sounders 0

Staff Writer Phil Collin has the game story.

The Seattle perspective is considerably gloomier.

Notable: (to update an OptaJack Tweet from just before Sunday’s game): Robbie Keane and Mike Magee combined have scored 10 of the Galaxy’s last 12 goals.

Quotable: “Next week they’ll have Eddie [Johnson] from the start, my guess is they’ll have Rosales from the start and they’re a much different team at home than they are on the road,” said Galaxy playmaker Landon Donovan. “They beat us 4-0 earlier in the year and there’s no reason why they can’t do that again so we’ve got to be prepared.”

MLS Western Conference Final: Seattle Sounders at LA Galaxy in Carson

Kickoff is at 6 p.m. on ESPN from Home Depot Center, where ticket demand is strong enough that the club has reportedly begun selling tickets to the grass berm.

Forecast: 61 degrees at kickoff and dropping four degrees during the game.

Staff Writer Phil Collin has the game story.

Sounders striker Eddie Johnson has started the mindgames, putting the onus on the Galaxy. Here’s the Sounders perspective from The Seattle Times.

Galaxy midfielder Mike Magee says just the opposite, of course.

Here’s the Galaxy man on flipping fire.

Galaxy midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson is listed as questionable with right quad tightness, while central defender A.J. DeLaGarza remains out.

Sounds like Sounders midfielder Mauro Rosales (R hamstring strain) will be a gametime decision for Sigi Schmid, who must find a replacement at left back for Marc Burch, suspended by MLS Saturday evening for a homophobic slur:

MLS Commissioner Don Garber has suspended Burch for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for using unacceptable and offensive language towards an opponent in the 75th minute of the game against Real Salt Lake on Thursday, Nov. 8th.

Commissioner Garber also mandated that Burch attend diversity and sensitivity training. This is in addition to the training that all MLS clubs attend at the beginning of each season.

Burch will serve the suspension during the next three Seattle Sounders FC matches which include the two 2012 Conference Finals games against the LA Galaxy. Should Seattle advance to MLS Cup 2012, Burch will serve the final game of his suspension during that match.  If his team does not advance to MLS Cup 2012, he will be suspended for the first game of the 2013 season.

The Eastern Conference final kicks off at 1p.m. on NBC Sports Network. Preview.

Chivas USA Fires Coach Robin Fraser

The announcement hit my inbox at 6:44 p.m. Friday, a time when no one who wants any attention makes news announcements.

No surprise the firing occurred (GM Jose Domene will likely be next given his status on the Chivas USA totem pole) considering the season the Western Confernce dweller had but frankly former Galaxy defender Robin Fraser should probably have quit given the near total lack of resources from the absent ownership.

New 100 Percent Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara likely had this in mind all along anyway given the previously scheduled press conference set for Tuesday in Beverly Hills (you think he wants to come to Carson any more than most Chivas USA fans)?

There was no quote from Chivas USA ownership or management in the press release thanking the classy, articulate Fraser – perhaps Chivas USA’s best ambassador in the last two years – for his  service, a pithy MLS staple of such announcements that at least shows a degree of respect.

His record was 15-32-21 over two seasons; Chivas USA didn’t make the playoffs during his tenure.

Assistant Coach Greg Vanney, Technical Director and Head Scout Simon Elliott and Head Athletic Trainer Brian Lee were also punted. Here are the survivors (so far) on the coaching staff.

Chivas USA fires coach Robin Fraser, who (like Jesse Marsch) could succeed in the right situation. Chivas is a mess as a club.

— Grant Wahl (@GrantWahl) November 10, 2012

What do you think? Was the firing deserved or just merely inevitable given the generally shambolic organization Fraser worked for?

And the Galaxy’s Western Conference Final Opponents Are…

The Seattle Sounders led by former Galaxy coach and long-time Torrance resident Sigi Schmid, which mugged Real Salt Lake 1-0 with a stunning “Super” Mario Martinez strike eight minutes from the end of regulation time.

Tickets, starting at $33 are on sale now for the 6 p.m. Sunday first leg at Home Depot Center (live on ESPN). The second game is the following Sunday at the same time on the same channel in Seattle.

LA Galaxy’s Western Conference final opponents decided today

That would be either Salt Lake City or the Seattle Sounders who clash at 6:30 p.m. live on ESPN2.

Key Sounders Eddie Johnson and Mauro Rosales remain injury doubts by the way.

The early game sees New York and D.C. United (hopefully) resuming play at 4:30 p.m. on the NBC Sports Network after a blizzard postponed Wednesday’s initial attempt. The teams are tied 1-1.

The winner meets the Houston Dynamo in the Eastern Conference final. Houston dispatched Sporting Kansas City Wednesday.
