Two days after a record crowd of more than 30,000 fans packed Home Depot Center to watch the LA Galaxy come from behind to beat the Houston Dynamo, some 3,000 returned Monday night to mark the second successive MLS title for LA in a trophy celebration.
Meanwhile, as the story by Staff Writer Phil Collin indicates, the MLS post-season wheeling and dealing has begun (look who’s apartment hunting again).
Chivas USA, meanwhile, has declined options on defender Danny Califf (a towering figure in defence this season) as well as midfielder Alejandro Moreno, while veterans Juan Pablo Angel and Pete Vagenas are out of contract (and likely to retire one would think).
From the MLS Cup winning club: Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena and the complete team, including MLS Cup MVP Omar Gonzalez , David Beckham and goal scorers Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane will be in attendance at the event, which will kick off at 7 p.m. inside the Tennis Stadium at The Home Depot Center. Stadium gates will open at 6 p.m.
Admission and parking to the Championship Celebration will be free and fans will be able to honor the back-to-back MLS Cup champions in addition to taking a photo with the 2012 MLS Cup. Fans will also be able to purchase their official MLS Cup championship gear and can receive a patch of grass from the field for just a $5 donation to the LA Galaxy Foundation. There will also be food and drink specials throughout the night including $1 hot dogs and popcorn and $2 beers. The 2002, 2005 and 2011 MLS Cup trophies will also be on display.
