Chivas USA Sign Mexican Trio on Loan From CD Guadalajara

The three are midfielder Edgar “El Chore” Mejia, 24; U-17 Mexican international forward Giovani Casillas, 19; and center back Mario de Luna, 25.

All are products of the mother ship’s youth Academy.

De Luna has scored two goals for CD Guadalajara and is the most experienced of the three, appearing almost 40 times for the Mexican club.

Mejia was most recently on loan at Leon.

Chivas USA, unbeaten so far in preseason, plays its final game Saturday in Carson before MLS cranks up next weekend.

Was the 42 Penalty Kick Heartbreaker Redondo Endured A Record?

Redondo’s Janel De Curtis glumly walks away after missing a game-tying 20th penalty against Great Oak of Temecula Tuesday (Photo by Staff Photographer Robert Casillas).

Hardly.

This occurred in Southern California just last year.

And here are plenty of similar pnealty kick-oriented eyebrow-raising, um, accomplishments.

Still, the South Bay game between Redondo and Great Oak must have been something to see.

And hang in there, Janel.

Someone had to miss.

AYSO, Turning 50, Seeks Memorable Moments

Former Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid was a kid growing up in Torrance when he played in the first season of the American Youth Soccer Organization, famously founded in a local garage.

With the now international organization celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, the nonprofit has roped Schmid into coaxing past and present players and volunteers to share their most vivid AYSO memory:

“To celebrate, AYSO’s putting together a “Happy Anniversary” digital, interactive timeline of AYSO’s 50 most memorable moments, milestones and events to share with AYSO parents, players, volunteers and alumni.

Tons of amazing things have happened in AYSO (and by AYSO alumni) since its founded in 1964, and collecting the top 50 moments is no easy task. So, we’re asking for your help.

Submit a moment or milestone you think should be included on the timeline here. We hope to receive lots of submissions, and while we won’t be able to include all of them on the timeline, we have big plans for your ideas throughout our year-long celebration in 2014.

Sincerely,
Sigi

The Goats tied 0-0 Tuesday at soggy and chilly Titan Stadium in Fullerton with the same Korean team that played to the same result against the Galaxy recently. Game story.

LA Galaxy Dog Xolos in Carson Preseason Friendly

Galaxy 6 Club Tijuana 2

Good to know a Mexican champion B team can’t beat a preseason MLS champion side.

The Tuesday night game was notable for filthy weather, two red cards (in an exhibition, no less), assured performances by two-goal Bryan Gaul and (to a lesser extent) Leonardo as well as an assertive Robbie Keane opener. And a spirited crowd in frankly crappy weather.

Next up for the Galaxy: Friday in Santa Barbara against the Colorado Rapids.

Lineups:
LA Galaxy: Brian Perk (Brian Rowe 64’); A.J. DeLaGarza (Oscar Sorto 61’), Omar Gonzalez (Kofi Opare 64’), Leonardo (Mathaus Ferreira 46’), Bryan Gaul; Sean Franklin (Hector Jimenez 46’), Marcelo Sarvas (Rafael Garcia 46’), Juninho (Michael Stephens 46’), Colin Clark (Greg Cochrane 46’); Mike Magee (Jack McBean 46’), Robbie Keane(C) (Charlie Rugg 61’).

Subs Not Used: Todd Dunivant.

Club Tijuana: Miguel Garcia; Luis A. Garcia, Juan P. Santiago (Luis Trujillo 71’), Miguel Almazan, Greg Garza (Edgar Villegas 46’); Oliver Ortiz, Antonio Madueña (Esteban Rodriguez 68’), Alejandro Guido (Manuel Herrera 46’); Bruno Piceno, Raul Nava, Alfredo Moreno(C) (Luis Garcia Carmona 46’).
