The real set-piece story of the game, and of the season, is not that Portland scored. That’s going to happen when someone makes a great play, as Urruti did. Allowing one goal shouldn’t be a big problem for a team like LA.

The real set-piece story is the Galaxy failure to score on corners and free kicks throughout the game, and throughout the whole season. They had more than a half-dozen corners in the game, and several free kicks in dangerous areas. It has happened over and over again all season. That many dead ball opportunities should yield goals, lots of goals. But they rarely even threatened.

Think of the Seattle game. Juninho finally finds his mojo and scores a masterful free kick. When they get the next one, he yeilds to Courtois (WTF?!?), who sends it pointlessly into the stands, where most Galaxy free kicks have ended up all season. The points are lost.

    Exasperating. Depressing. Boring.

That Keane, Rickity, Johnson picture is so asking to be a caption contest, something like Keane: “You’re just angry because your Canadian”, Johnson “Yeah well at least I’m not captain of the Irish diving team like you, eh”, Rickity: ” Chill Bra”!
